IT Systems Administrator
The IT System Administrator is responsible for providing exceptional end user experience using a broad set of technical capabilities across traditional Platforms, Cloud based platforms, Database platforms, and Application systems and take appropriate proactive and reactive action to ensure Greencross IT services are available, secure and performing as expected. In addition, IT System Administrator will provide mentoring and guidance to team members and support to the Team lead as required.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- System Engineering and Provisioning
o Assist in the build, implementation, and management according to standards and
project/operational requirements in On-Premises & Cloud environments.
o Maintenance and constant improvement of organization’s IT Infrastructure systems.
o Monitor core system performance and provide guidance on utilization, optimization and
perform proactive capacity planning.
o Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
o Research and recommend innovative solutions and wherever possible implement process automation for system administration tasks.
o Identify opportunities for effective external hosting of core business applications to provide scalable systems capable of supporting business needs while maintaining quality and level of service.
- Operations and Service Support
o Perform daily review of infrastructure platforms and verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and
application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
o Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
o Actively engage in assisting L1/L2 and multiple application team members with incident
management, problem management & guidance using ITIL framework.
o Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
o Create, change, and delete user accounts per request. Provide end user support, as
needed.
o Continually look for opportunities to automate or document procedures for other teams to handle break-fix type incidents or empower users.
o Participate in knowledge sharing processes, developing knowledge base articles, and
providing training / guidance.
o Coordinate and communicate with external vendors to manage and deliver services for the business.
- Maintenance
o Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
o Configure or add new services as necessary.
o Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
o Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
o Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as
required.
- Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Tertiary degree in IT/Computer Science preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in Level 3 Technical roles such as System Administrator.
- Excellent knowledge on Microsoft Windows / Azure AD, Group Policy Management
and virtualization technologies using VMware, Hyper V and Azure.
- Solid experience managing environments utilising M365 E5 & F5 capabilities.
- Experience in deploying and supporting complex IAAS, SAAS based solutions in OnPrem and Public
Cloud (Azure/AWS) infrastructure platforms and undertaking modernisation activities to leverage the full benefits of Public Cloud.
- Hands on experience with medium to large Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
- Experience with Anti-Virus, WSUS and monitoring platform in a corporate environment.
- Experience in cloud technologies like Azure AD, O365 business Apps, Intune, Defender security suite etc.
- Experience with Remote Monitoring Management (RMM) tools, Kaseya VSA X preferred.
- Experience in MS SQL administration and SQL clusters.
- Strong networking skills, such as a deep understanding of how switching and routing works, VPN / Firewalls, NAT / PAT, VoIP, VLAN’s, DNS
- ITIL Foundation Certification desirable.
- Knowledge/Experience administering/working with LS Retail or Navision products is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service attitude, both in person and remote.
- Ability to write clear and concise documents, reports, and emails to liaise with external parties, internal staff, and colleagues.
- Automation skills using any combination of PowerShell, VB, batch scripting, Azure DevOps, etc. to scale processes.
