Data Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Azure Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance data solutions on the Microsoft Azure platform.
The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in SQL, Power BI, and data modeling concepts (including fact and dimension tables, star and snowflake schemas) and will play a key role in enabling enterprise-wide data accessibility and insights.
The Data Engineer will build and maintain our Analytics assets in Azure Synapse Analytics,Fabric lakehouses and SQL database using expert knowledge of T-SQL, data pipelines, data flows, and pyspark notebooks.
They will have secondary role working in Power BI to develop reports and dashboards for the business.
In this role, the successful candidate should be able to write and support functional queries with a sharp eye for spotting defects. They should be a team player and excellent communicator. They should be passionate about Analytics, reporting and data modelling best practices.
Key Responsibilities and Duties (Principal Accountabilities)
Data Architecture & Modeling
Design and implement robust data models using fact and dimension tables, star schema, and snowflake schema approaches.
Develop and maintain semantic layers and tabular models for reporting and analytics.
ETL / ELT Development
Build, optimize, and maintain data modelling, data pipelines, notebooks using Azure Synapse Analytics, serverless and dedicated pools and SQL databases.
Integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
Python / PySpark for data transformation.
Data Analysis & Reporting
Create and maintain Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports.
Optimize Power BI data models for performance and usability.
Data Quality & Governance
Implement best practices for data validation, cleansing, and transformation.
Work closely with stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security compliance.
Performance Optimization
Tune SQL queries, indexes, and data models for maximum efficiency.
Monitor and improve performance of ETL pipelines and reporting solutions.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with business analysts, data scientists, and application developers to support data-driven decision-making.
Provide technical guidance on Azure data services and data modeling best practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, power BI) highly desirable.
Experience:
Technical Skills
Advanced SQL skills (query writing, stored procedures, performance tuning).
Strong experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Fabric, Azure SQL Database, serverless and dedicated pools, spark transformations, pyspark
Proficient in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, report building, optimization).
Strong understanding of fact and dimension tables, star and snowflake schema design.
Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools.
Understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
Familiarity with Azure Data Lake or related big data tools.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.
Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality deliverables.
Attributes:
Understanding of Dynamics 365 Commerce data model and Dataverse will be a plus
Knowledge of Retail industry will be a plus
Knowledge of Power platform and Copilot Studio will be a plus
